چکیده

Intertidal sediment grain size is one of the environmental parameters that can explain the interaction between the marine and terrestrial environments. Geostatistics has been widely used to model spatial distribution of many geological objects. However, there have been a few researches concerning application to grain size distribution. The aim of this study is to clarify surface sediment distribution on tidal flats based on the geostatistical approach. Data of sand content (percent of fraction >0.063 mm) in sediments taken from the Ba Lat estuary were characterized by using ordinary kriging (OK) to model sediment distribution. Four sediment types could be recognized: sand, muddy sand, sandy mud and mud. The sandy sediments are dominant from the near sea shoals (Con Mo, Con Vanh, Con Thu) to the centre of study area. The muddy sediments are concentrated from the inner edge to the centre of the study area, where mangroves cover partly these tidal flats. These results contribute to understand the hydro-dynamic and environmental pollution processes in the estuarine area.

Persistent organochlorine residues in estuarine and marine sediments from Ha Long Bay, Hai Phong Bay, and Ba Lat Estuary, Vietnam.

To assess the organochlorine contamination in the northeast coastal environment of Vietnam, a total of 41 surface sediments were collected from Ha Long Bay, Hai Phong Bay, and Ba Lat estuary, and analyzed for their organochlorine content. Organochlorine compounds (OCs) were widely distributed in the Vietnamese coastal environment. Among the OCs measured, DDT compounds predominated with concentr...

Seasonal variability in water chemistry and sediment characteristics of intertidal zone at Karnafully estuary, Bangladesh

The Karnafully is one of the most important rivers due to its profound influence on water chemistry and sediment characteristics. The present study intended to assess the quality of water and sediment from intertidal zone of this river in respect to the pollution index. Seasonal water and sediment samples were collected during four seasons (Monsoon, post-monsoon, winter, and pre-monsoon) of 201...

The Distribution of Trace Metal Pollutants within Intertidal Sediments of the Tamar Estuary, Sw England

Concentrations of trace metal pollutants are frequently reported from intertidal sediments (e.g. Bryan and Langston, 1992; French, 1993; Lindsay and Bell, 1997; Pirrie et al., 1997, 2000) and as these areas are often sites of intense human and animal activity, the level of contaminants are of particular interest with respect to environmental health (Rae, 1997; Clark, 1997). When trace metals ar...

Arsenic and Heavy Metal Contamination in Soils under Different Land Use in an Estuary in Northern Vietnam

Heavy metal contamination of soil and sediment in estuaries warrants study because a healthy estuarine environment, including healthy soil, is important in order to achieve ecological balance and good aquaculture production. The Ba Lat estuary of the Red River is the largest estuary in northern Vietnam and is employed in various land uses. However, the heavy metal contamination of its soil has ...
